Lollapalooza 2010 promised to be bigger and better than ever before. Expanding the footprint and extending the festival to three days, this year’s event allowed producer C3 Presents to follow through on that promise.

Classic Party Rentals Chicago was the festival’s exclusive rental company providing tenting, flooring, lighting and furniture solutions for a myriad of applications.

Classic also helped the food service providers feed over 90,000 people per day with concessions, VIP “Lolla Lounge” and corporate cabanas catered by Catering by Michael’s.

Coachella Valley and Stagecoach Music Festivals

The Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA was one very busy venue in April hosting both the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival. The events combined entertained music fans to the tune of over 325,000 guests.

Both events are produced by Goldenvoice which is now a division of AEG Live. Coachella Festival is in its eleventh year of production and Stagecoach debuted in 2007.

Classic Tents spent two weeks on the set-up with 29 men. Looking at the site, you can see the broad range of tenting available from Classic including:

meter structures from Classic’s Prime Event Group
maxibeam structures
minibeam structures
regular canopies
festival canopies
round canopies
pole tents

Also provided by Classic were thousands of chairs, hundreds of tables and covers, picket fencing, wood subfloor and astroturf and a truckload of cooking equipment helped vendors feed the masses.

After the first three days, many tents were moved or resized. The local store in Coachella Valley did their part, setting up several tents added at the last minute.

Barry Manilow’s Gift of Love Concerts

The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert was chosen by Barry Manilow for five special Christmas A Gift of Love concerts to benefit 25 local charities. The event producer Stiletto Entertainment contacted Classic Party Rentals to provide tenting from the dressing room behind the theatre to the side stage entrance so Barry Manilow could be seen by fans at a distance.

Because of the location near the buildings, Classic provided two standby men each night at the request of the fire marshal. An interesting sidenote is that the location also experienced a record rainfall and high winds on the evening of the December 7 concert. The canopies included one 10 x 40, one 15 x 25, one 15 x 20 and a 10 x 20 enclosed with clear sidewalls. All leg pipes were wrapped with velon and because of a cold snap two forced air heaters were added to the job the second night.

Inside the theatre Classic provided Crushed Antique Velvet Cranberry draping and on the patio of the green room, three mushroom heaters with Black Kindle covers completed the job.

Commendations to Barry Manilow for his generous support of the 25 local charities. The Desert Sun newspaper estimated that he would raise about $500,000 for the charities.

What an amazing evening a la LA Philharmonic! Guests stepped from their cars onto a hot pink carpet and were serenaded by a flamenco quartet, Fresh Green, as they made their way up the Walt Disney stairs to the cocktail reception. After drinks and Latin-inspired hors d’oeuvres, guests were invited to attend the inaugural concert, which included City Noir by John Adams and Mahler’s First Symphony.

Following the concert, guests descended to Grand Avenue, where Gai Klass Event Production in collaboration with production designers TFS Studio, with support from Event Construction Services and the lighting crew from Images by Lighting as well as Classic Party Rentals had transformed the street into a cobble-stoned Latin Avenida, surrounded by brightly painted buildings and tropical flora.

Brazilian drummers and capoeiristas (Fresh Green) entertained as guests moved to their brightly dressed tables. A delicious, Latin influenced dinner was served by Patina. Guests danced to the music of Impulse Band from West Coast Music and the climax of the evening was a carnival-inspired aerialist performance by AiRealistic.

It takes a village and special kudos went to Classic’s Jeff Williams ”for the wealth of knowledge and expertise shared from beginning to end.”

Classic Party Rentals Lollapalooza tenting under the Chicago skyline

Chicago hosted Lollapalooza, an annual four-day musical festival August 7–9 featuring alternative rock, hip hop and punk rock bands offering a series of concerts in Grant Park.

Kicking off this year’s Lollapalooza weekend was Galapalooza, where Classic created a total backstage experience on the festival grounds for guests to enjoy an evening of cocktails, dining and music in an upscale outdoor lounge setting while supporting the Parkways Foundation’s efforts to enrich Chicago’s parks.

Classic Chicago provided a large amount of tents, tables, chairs, lounge furniture, linen, flooring, lighting and food service equipment to accommodate the festival traffic which encompassed over one mile of eager crowds. While most of the tenting we installed was for alcohol and food sales, we provided a 50′ x 50′ tent for a PlayStation area and eleven 20′ x 20′ cabanas which served as upscale areas for VIP hospitality sponsors. We also provided tents for the entrance, souvenir sales, display areas, first aid and autograph sessions.

The event was a success in spite of inclement weather conditions. A sold-out crowd of 225,000 music fans attended the performances of approximately 130 bands. The die-hard concertgoers came…….rain or shine!
