Ray Charles Memorial Library

The Ray Charles Memorial Library opened its doors on September 23, 2010, the 80th anniversary of the birth of Ray Charles. The library is located on the ground floor of the landmark Los Angeles building Charles designed for his offices and recording studio.

“Ray spent more time in this building than any other in the world,” said Tony Gumina, president of The Ray Charles Marketing Group. “In this building, Ray Charles had 20/20 vision.”

Classic El Segundo provided all the rentals for the elegant ceremony preceding the official ribbon-cutting.  From floor to ceiling, the event was a beautiful tribute to the music icon.

Under the direction of The Ray Charles Foundation, the library will initially be open by invitation only to school children with plans to open to the public in 2011.
