The 12-day BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Gardens was attended by a record 339,657 from over 40 countries. The 96-player draw for men’s and woman’s singles competed for $9 million in total prize money.
An additional feature this year was the special Hit for Haiti charity event. And the stars came out…Martina Navratilova, Justine Henin, Lindsay Davenport and Steffi Graf on the women’s side and Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, and Andre Agassi for the men.
Classic Tents provide 80,000 square feet of cover space for the event. The smallest canopy was 100 square feet and the largest was 14,000 square feet. A total of 75,000 square feet of astroturf was installed.
Six new custom-made canopies were added this year for the project. Seven hundred feet of glass storefront and doors were installed on structures throughout the venue, and of course, hundreds of tables with covers and thousands of chairs.
To install a job of this size, Classic Tents had a crew of ten men working ten hours a day, seven days a week for four weeks.
Palm Spring customer, John’s Restaurant, rented cooking equipment and the Tennis Gardens had a few will calls at the store to fill in needed last minute items.
